Project Skinny Minnie

Skinny Minne, thats what people used to call me a VERY long time ago. Check out this waistline (me in 1989, hubby was pretty skinny then too…)

skinny minnie

Over the years I attended college (can you say Freshmen 30), had 4 kids (used the fact that I was gonna have more as an excuse not to loose weight in between), and quit working (thus sitting around more on the couch).  Put this all together and I have gone from “Skinny Minnie” to someone I don’t even recognize, someone who has gained 80 pounds in 14 years, someone who has to buy new clothes when the seasons change cause she keeps gaining weight, someone who is disgusted that she let it get this bad.  I have been disgusted for years but I have not been ready to do anything about it, I think I am finally ready.  Maybe its because I’m quickly approaching 40 (only 2 more years yikes!), maybe its because I can’t keep up with my kids anymore, maybe its because I can feel the fat around my midsection folding up when I sit down, whatever the reason,  I want to be healthy for me and for my family. It’s time, it’s been time and I keep ignoring it.

Last year at this time I had just gotten a Wii Fit and was so excited to get started with it and lose some weight, feel better and succeed. That didn’t happen.  I just couldn’t make the commitment to myself, not sure why.  Fear? Rose colored glasses? Denial? Laziness?

I am ready (I have to keep telling myself this, you can tell me too if you like) I have signed up for and been chosen to do a 3 month challenge with Collective Bias, using  the Your Shape featuring  Jenny McCarthy Wii game.  I will have the support of 10 other participants, the Collective Bias Community and all of you, and I will need every ounce of support I can get to stay on track.

In addition to using  Your Shape, I plan on dusting off my Wii Fit, changing my eating habits, wearing my Earth Footwear and (gasp) giving up my Pepsi.  The world just might end if I can’t have Pepsi, ok it won’t end but you don’t want to be around me when I haven’t had a Pepsi.  I’m gonna start by trying Diet Pepsi, I don’t like it but its better than going completely cold turkey.

I will be blogging my progress, my ups and downs, my pain and my triumph, right here for the whole world to see.  I’m scared, I’m nervous, I think I’m a bit crazy, but I am determined to do this.  You can follow my journey under the “Project Skinny Minnie” tab here on my blog.

Wish me luck and send some luck to my awesome partners in this journey as well.

I pretty much could’ve written this post myself – except for the age bit and for the last part (not doing the Your Shape thing, lol)

I am back on track this year though. Hope to see much less of you, much more frequently in 2010!! :)

I know you can do it!!! We can all do it!!!!
Don’t drink Diet Pepsi, it is worse than regular Pepsi. Just switch to caffeine free first. Once you get over the caffeine hump then start eliminating one glass every few days and replace it with water. In no time you will be done with Pepsi and you wont miss it!

You can do it. Last year at this time, I embarked on training for The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer – it was a 40 mile walk over 2 days. I am a girl that hates exercise and hates the gym, but I did it, I trained for 6 months and walked 40 miles in June. I have since kept up with the walking. It seems daunting, but having support is key. Good Luck!!

[...] are really yummy and highly addicting! The downside, they are really fattening.  As part of my new commitment to my health I am always looking for healthier alternatives to some of my favorite food [...]
