Even though the calendar says spring started a month ago…the temperature gage here in Pittsburgh today was a different story…35 degrees and snow, at the end of April, crazy right? The kids are off school tomorrow so I wanted to make them a little surprise when they wake up tomorrow morning with the new spices I received from McCormick a few weeks ago because nothing warms a house better than the sweet smell of something baking in the oven. I headed over to McCormick's Spring Look Book to see what I could find.
There were lots of cute cupcakes like these
and these
and these cute meringue cookies
But I wanted something a little more breakfast like so I decided to go with this yummy Cinnamon Crumb Cake
The recipe was very simple and contained ingredients I had on hand which I love when looking for recipes. There is nothing worse than finding the perfect recipe only to find you need to go to the store for over half of the uncommon ingredients. You can find the original recipe on McCormick's website.
Here's what you will need
- 2 cups flour
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 2 tbsp McCormick ground cinnamon
- 2 sticks butter, cold
- 1 white cake mix
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 egg
- 1/2 stick melted butter
- 1 tsp McCormick vanilla extract
Begin by combining the flour, sugars and butter in a large bowl until the mixture is a nice crumbly texture
With an electric mixer combine cake mix, egg, vanilla, melted butter and sour cream until blended, mixture will be thick
Spread cake mixture into a well greased/floured 9 x 13 pan, top with the crumble mixture then bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes
I'm serving the yummy cake with a side of apples.
This would be a great recipe for a family brunch or to take to a friends house for a party. It was really easy and everyone loved it.

That looks delicious! And what a great way to wake up on a day off

The meringue cookies look awesome, but my general lack of skills in the kitchen would probably mean they wouldn't come out looking that nice if I made them. The Cinnamon Crumble Cake, however, looks simple and delicious and it's probably more my speed.
