Healthy Meal Challenge for Your Shape

Well the Your Shape Challenge is winding down, one more week to go and this week we were challenged to create a healthy home cooked meal for our families. I searched through recipes books, googled looking for something new and even thought about creating something from scratch. Everything I saw or thought of also came with the thought “my kids won’t eat that” and I didn’t want to waste energy and money on something that was going to goto waste so I decided to tweek a family favorite and make it a bit healthier. Here is my Whrrl story with all ingredients and directions to make what we call Chicken Aleo.
Disclosure ~ I was given a gift card as compensation for my time and the supplies needed to complete this challenge.

Your Shape for the Wii Review

I recently was sent a copy of the Your Shape for the Wii to use as part of a 12 week challenge I was chosen for through Collective Bias. I have been using it now for about 8 weeks (minus 2 weeks in the middle when I was traveling) and I would like to share with you my thoughts on the game.
About the game
“Your Shape, is an interactive fitness product for the Nintendo Wii. Developed in collaboration with fitness experts, Your Shape creates a fitness program personalized to help you meet your fitness goals. Featuring an exclusive camera (the first for Wii!), the game detects your movements so that Jenny McCarthy, your in-game workout buddy and guide, can correct your form as you exercise. We know how hard it is to stick to a fitness routine — that’s why Jenny will be by your side to encourage, motivate, and entertain you as you workout. Fitness has never been this effective or fun!” ~ taken from YourShapeGame.com click here to read my review of Your ShapeYour Shape Update and Healthy Snacking Challenge

As you may have noticed I haven’t really been updating you on my Your Shape progress lately. I am still trudging along with Jenny trying to better my life but it has been really hard lately. I haven’t been feeling well, the kids have been sick so I am not getting much sleep and I was away for the better part of 3 weeks totally off my program. Surprisingly while I was away I didn’t do too bad , I only gained about 3 pounds back (which I lost again this past week). I tried to watch what I ate while I was gone and I wasn’t totally good the whole time but I did try to make better choices and not to over indulge. I also did a ton of walking while I was gone, The Opryland Hotel and Disney World are monstrous! Starting today I am recommitting myself to my weight loss journey and my Your Shape Challenge because I don’t want to look like this forever.

Your Shape Challenge ~ Week 2

Well I just finished up my second week with Jenny and Your Shape and what a trip it has been! It’s getting easier but I’m still amazed at how out of shape I actually am.
After a frustrating week 1 where I didn’t loose any weight I’m happy to announce that I have lost 11 pounds this week! It feels really great to say that. I’m not exactly sure what made the difference but I changed several things this week.
1. Upped my water intake ~ I’m still nowhere near the suggested amount of water a day, I have to keep working on this, but I did drink more than I used to which was only about 1 or 2 glasses a day. I used to reach for a Pepsi, now I reach for water.
2. I changed my diet. This was big for me, I never ate breakfast, I usually snack all day a little at a time, eat what the kids don’t eat after I make lunch and then eat dinner with my family. Drastic changes here.

Project Skinny Minnie

Skinny Minne, thats what people used to call me a VERY long time ago. Check out this waistline (me in 1989, hubby was pretty skinny then too…)

Over the years I attended college (can you say Freshmen 30), had 4 kids (used the fact that I was gonna have more as an excuse not to loose weight in between), and quit working (thus sitting around more on the couch). Put this all together and I have gone from “Skinny Minnie” to someone I don’t even recognize, someone who has gained 80 pounds in 14 years, someone who has to buy new clothes when the seasons change cause she keeps gaining weight, someone who is disgusted that she let it get this bad. I have been disgusted for years but I have not been ready to do anything about it, I think I am finally ready. Maybe its because I’m quickly approaching 40 (only 2 more years yikes!), maybe its because I can’t keep up with my kids anymore, maybe its because I can feel the fat around my midsection folding up when I sit down, whatever the reason, I want to be healthy for me and for my family. It’s time, it’s been time and I keep ignoring it.
